Description

The Lewis School Summer Study Program affords a student the opportunity to acquire strong, new multi-sensory learning tools and strategies targeted to areas of weakness, and applicable for a lifetime of learning.
The Lewis School’s Summer Study Program is now entering its 35th season. The Summer Study Program will begin on Monday, June 30, 2008, and end on Friday, July 25, 2008. We hope that your child will be joining us for this very special and exciting four weeks. Our Summer Study Program consists of the following components:
1)The Morning Academic Study Session offers integrated, Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading, and research-based multisensory speech-language instruction curriculum-wide to students with learning issues related to dyslexia, auditory processing and attention deficit. The classes will strengthen the student’s academic skills and reinforce the essential mechanics of language. The Morning Session is open to all levels, from Pre-School to Upper School, College and College Preparatory.
2)The Afternoon Enrichment Session includes a wide variety of “hands-on”, discovery learning programs in both enrichment subjects and athletics. This year our Afternoon Enrichment Program is open to Lower, Middle, and Upper School Students.
Students from other schools find our Summer Study Program of great use to reinforce the learning of academic skills, and in repairing those skills that are not yet well developed. The morning session will make a difference even over a period of four weeks, in a student’s approach to learning and studying. We strongly urge that students who are candidates for fall admission to The Lewis School attend the Summer Study Program in order to acquaint themselves with the School and its unique methods of teaching and learning. Joining their classmates in the fall, some of whom will have already studied at The Lewis School for perhaps several years, will be a much easier process if the student has been prepared during the Summer Study Program. Both morning and afternoon programs are taught by learning specialists trained by The Lewis School and Clinic. The learning of skills and strategies that take place in the morning sessions are also reinforced in the afternoon enrichment sessions.
We at The Lewis School and Clinic for Educational Therapy believe that a school should be a dynamic and nurturing place of learning – a community where mutual goodwill, openness, and respect are integrated with expertise to shape and reinforce an individual’s educational and personal needs. The Lewis School is committed to the process of building in each student the self-initiated and self-directed personal and academic skills that can prepare him or her for learning and for life. We are looking forward to a summer of learning and fun.Founded in 1973, The Lewis School is an Internationally Recognized Educational Resource where three generations of bright learning different students have prepared successfully to achieve their scholastic and personal best. Lewis is a nurturing, traditional day school where self-esteem and great promise are salvaged, and individual intelligences are valued and prospered. The Lewis School and Diagnostic Clinic is a non-profit, non-sectarian, independent, co-educational resource of educators and advocates for learning different persons. The Lewis School and Clinic is an equal-opportunity entity serving grades: Pre-School, Lower, Middle, and Upper School, College Preparatory, Graduate Study, and Adult Education. The Lewis School and Clinic does not discriminate on the basis of disability, race, ethnicity, creed, gender or gender orientation. Member of the International Dyslexia Association since 1973.
