Summer Camp Isn’t Just for Soccer

By: Susan Nicodemus Quinn

Children painting with friends      Do you cringe when you think of your child spending the whole summer chasing a ball around the field? Does your child’s self confidence plummet when faced by yet another relay race? Don’t despair; there’s an alternative.

The Greater Delaware Valley is fortunate to have a large selection of special camps. Whether your child is interested in acting, music, dance, science, visual arts, civics or animals there is a camp for you!

Children flourish when their natural talents and interests are the focus of their summer program. Self confidence and happiness radiates from a child who spent the whole day doing something they love. Each program is specifically designed for the child whose interests will be peaked by the experience, with variety and challenges within that scope.

Take, for example, a theatre camp. The morning may be spent in a variety of skill building classes, such as acting, singing, dancing, acting for the camera, dialects, character development, improvisation and theatre games. The afternoon could be spent preparing for a special performance to be presented to family and friends at the end of the camp experience.

Other options include science camps where the whole day is devised around exploring Earth Sciences. Or maybe your child wants the special experience of exploring civics and political science in a state of the art history museum.

With a little research you can easily find a program that will ignite the imagination of your young performer, scientist or future president!
