Mission & Philosophy

Orchard Friends School is dedicated to the education of children with language-based learning differences.

"Friends School" means that we are rooted in the traditions of Friends education and grounded in the Quaker values of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, stewardship, and mutual respect. Our program and services are non-sectarian.

"Education of children" means that in addition to our primary goal of teaching the children enrolled in our program, we reach out to our families and the larger community to improve understanding and practice in the education of children with language-based learning differences.

"Language-based learning differences" means that we provide a language enriched program and environment to serve children who need special modes of instruction."

Educational Objectives

Our goal is to educate each child according to their unique learning style and provide them with strategies so that they may successfully return to a more traditional classroom.

As we work toward this goal, we seek to instill a life-long love of learning in students within a community that values and respects each child as an individual.

Learning Environment

At Orchard Friends School, we believe the intellectual gifts of our students are to be treasured and nurtured. We celebrate each child’s recognition of his/her abilities and achievements. We believe that each student has the potential to respond to what has been called the “inward teacher”. Our program uses a multi-dimensional approach to teaching in order to access each child’s unique way of learning. As a result, we hope that each child will experience the joy of successful learning.
