Mission & Philosophy

Princeton Junior School is dedicated to offering the highest standard of education for children from pre-school through Grade V. The mission of Princeton Junior School is to graduate students with a solid grounding in the skills necessary to excel throughout their academic careers, a profound sense of their own abilities, an equally profound respect for the varied members of the school community, and a passion for learning and exploration.

The School is committed to selecting and cultivating passionate learners, attracting an exceptional faculty dedicated to academic and character development, and creating and nourishing a spirited and varied school community.

The School's philosophy of education teaches children to build on core knowledge, increasing the depth and strength of that knowledge as they mature. The central tenets of the educational program lie in its rigorous curriculum and attentive faculty, enabling Princeton Junior School to pursue the highest academic standards while respecting and nurturing individual styles of learning inherent in a diverse community.

Educational Objectives

We describe the School’s education process as Spiral Learning, symbolized by our school emblem, the chambered nautilus shell.

Students grow outward from their innate resources, building their knowledge and skills from grade to grade, and early to late childhood. Throughout the process, the students return again and again to their center to connect the fundamentals of earlier learning with the discoveries of the present day. Confidence is gained by the use of their inner resources in combination with their developing skills. This confidence, as much as intelligence and talent, will contribute academic success.

Spiral Learning functions best in a nurturing community. Children need the security of loving relationships in order to take the risks that new growth requires. In such an environment students build from the ground up, pull knowledge out of raw materials, use creative energy from play, ask questions, and solve problems companionably. These elements of Spiral Learning are integral to the educational experience at Princeton Junior School.

Learning Environment

Princeton Junior School’s curriculum meets the highest standards for knowledge and skills that students should acquire in Pre-school and Kindergarten through Grade V. The curriculum is developed to challenge each student at his or her stage of development. At the core of all teaching at PJS is the belief that effective written and oral communication skills are essential to a vibrant learning community. In our teaching, we attempt to balance the conceptual and the concrete by giving children opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills to life situations. Our aim is to graduate self-confident, responsible and independent students who enthusiastically revere life and learning.
