Einstein Goes Digital

Getting your annual mammogram just got a little easier and better at the Marion-Louise Saltzman Women’s Center at the Albert Einstein Medical Center: they installed four full-field digital mammography units in its screening and diagnostics areas. Now the hospital can perform twice as many mammograms in a day and digital mammography uses X-rays to produce an image of the breast just like the traditional film version, but with digital the radiologist can enhance, manipulate and improve the image to provide more information. The best part is digital mammography increases early detection rates in both pre-menopausal and young women. “National breast cancer survival rates have been improving since 1990, largely due to early detection,” said Debra Somers-Copit, MD, Director of Breast Imaging. Another benefit: if the radiologist wants to consult with another opinion to get the diagnosis right, all she has to do is e-mail the image to a specialist. The Marion-Louise Saltzman Women’s Center is first hospital in Philadelphia to go all digital.

New Emergency Department at the Crozer-Chester Medical Center

A new helipad is just one addition to the Crozer-Chester Medical Center; there’s also a new emergency department, featuring advanced technologies and added amenities to make patients’ experiences more comfortable. (Isn’t going to an emergency room stressful enough?)

Special features of the new 40,000-square-foot facility include:

• 52 treatment areas, affording patients the greatest measure of privacy and comfort.

• An “Express Care” treatment area. Designed for patients with minor injuries or illness, the “Express Care” area provides quick and easy care so patients can be on their way as soon as possible.

• A self-contained trauma area so that the most critically ill patients will be brought to a dedicated area with supplies and equipment necessary to life-saving efforts and staffed with clinicians certified in trauma care.

• A dedicated burn resuscitation room and two dedicated medical/pediatric resuscitation rooms, specially equipped for the needs of these patients.

• A dedicated CT Scanner/Diagnostic Imaging Suite that eliminates the need for patients to be transported to other areas of the medical center for diagnostic procedures, saving precious time.

• Designated pediatric waiting and treatment areas that allow us to protect our youngest patients and visitors from disturbing sights and sounds.
