America’s First Zoo turned 150 on March 21, 2009! In
tribute to the anniversary date of the signing of its charter, the Zoo has
launched a year-long celebration. On June 20, come and celebrate Father’s
Day with a family overnight at the Zoo! Meet some of our animals, take a
night hike, and spend the night inside one of our classrooms. Then on June
23, he Zoo’s brand new summer storytelling series takes place on alternating
Tuesdays in the Children’s Zoo Theater. Visitors can enjoy books read by
local authors.

There’s no better place to scavenge than at the beach!
Learn all about the different shell varieties that you can collect on
Delaware’s beaches. Take home a beach scavenger hunt that the entire family
can enjoy. Make a full shell art project that you can display proudly at
home. Other special workshops for children ages 4 through 10 are held
throughout the year on a variety of fun and wacky science topics.

During June, our antique steam engine will power
passenger trains on a 45 minute ride from Kempton to Wanamakers. All rides
are 6 miles round-trip leaving from the Kempton station. Trains leave hourly
1:00pm through 4:00pm. Kempton is 5 miles north of I-78 and US Route 22.
Take either Exit 40 for Route 737 North, or exit 35 Route 143. The station
is on Community Center Drive next to the Kempton Fairgrounds.

This annual festival is a great way to keep your kids’
minds active with children’s shows, workshops, and concerts on Saturday
afternoon at the Bethlehem Public Library. Listen to a free storytelling
performance with Oni Lasana, a.k.a “Granny Goose.” Sunday afternoon’s
children’s show features Eva Grayzel whose diverse audiences include Disney,
Crayola, Shriners Hospital, and Lehigh University. For four years, she
created and performed with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra in a series of
children’s shows called The Musical Treasure Chest.
