A Mother Expands the Sound of Music

By Karli Morello

For over 50 years, the New Jersey School of Music in Medford, N.J. has been teaching over 600 music lessons to students from 3 years to 80 years old. They offer classes from the Banjo to the Oboe and from the Drums to the Violin. Cherry Hill, N.J. is now home to another location of the New Jersey School of Music, called Piano Annex, located inside the Jacob’s Music Academy building on Haddonfield Rd. Renee Sutin, owner of both locations, has always had a love and appreciation for music.

“I played Cello in middle school and high school and always liked classical music more than rock,” Sutin said. She has three children, 22, 24 and 16 who are all interested in music and pursuing it just as their mother did.

“My kids helped me learn of a music school for sale [in Medford] and I found the concept interesting and went for it!” Sutin said of purchasing the original New Jersey School of Music. “We teach all ages, genres and disciplines of music.”

She also has help from music teacher and new manager of Piano Annex, David Dzubinski. He has 20 years of teaching experience and has a degree in composition from Temple University. “I was raised by a University professor, so it’s in my blood to teach and I’ve always had a love for music,” said Dzubinski.

Sutin and Dzubinski are both confident in their new music school, aside from the economy’s status. “The people who are cutting back [expenses] are not cutting back on their kid’s extra curricular activities,” said Sutin.

Both the New Jersey School of Music in Medford and the new Piano Annex in Cherry Hill help guide students to fulfilling their musical desires, whether it be as a hobby or a potential career. Piano Annex has many classrooms filled with pianos and keyboards and even a small recital room for small shows.
