Introduce your family to the wild side of Valley Forge! Explore and discover what nature has in store for you in the fields, forests, waters, and wetlands of this historical site. Tours depart on the above Saturdays from Maurice Stephens House, located across from Tour Stop 10.

Everyone knows that milk comes from cows but have you ever wondered the steps that get your dairy from the farm to the supermarket? Find out with your kids when you go down to the farm and experience a unique day touring the grounds of Merrymead Farm. The guides at Merrymead introduce you and your family to their cows and a variety of other loveable farm animals while answering any and all of your questions about the types of foods we enjoy from milk. From your seat on the interactive wagon tour, you can also observe the farm’s tractors, fields, and pastures while learning about how cows are milked, their diets, and sleeping habits.

Enjoy a day of fine craftsmanship and music at this year’s Pocono State Craft Festival. Dixieland and Bluegrass music will help add to the day’s festivities as fine jewelry, woodworking, clothing, metal work, stained glass, furniture, leather, basketry, and pottery will all be on display for you and your family’s shopping pleasure. Watch craft demonstrations and enjoy festival foods while celebrating a weekend of creativity and art. Admission: $6, children 12 and under are free!

Visit the Land before Time with your kids during this interactive morning of digging for dinosaur bones, building volcanoes, and making fossils. Get up close and personal with some of P.A.W.S.’s reptiles as well. It’s perfect for the future paleontologist in your family. Best for ages 4 and up. Admission: $15 per child.

Cruise the Delaware Bay aboard the Cape May Whale Watcher, enjoy the breathtaking scenery, and view nine historic lighthouses during this Jersey Shore aquatic adventure. Each cruise includes narration on Delaware Bay lore and legend along with the history behind the lighthouses and interesting fishing facts. Spend a Tuesday in August letting your kids show their creative side while exploring the Enchanted Woods and Touch-It Room of    the Winterthur Museum in Delaware’s Brandywine Valley. Silver and Metals Day, Ceramics Day and Woodworking day allow children to learn about all kinds of new things in August through a variety of activities, including crafts, storytellers, a pottery wheel demonstration, and more.

Get the Buzz on Bees and Bugs

Part of the Longwood Gardens Family Ice Cream Concert series, families can learn about bees and beekeeping, get an up-close view of a bee’s nest, participate in ladybug and insect releases, and learn about beneficial insects. Afterwards, the fun continues with a performance by Steve Pullara and his Cool Beans Band, ice cream, and a colorful, dancing fountain show.

Every Sunday, noon to 4p.m., is Family Fun Day at Monmouth Park. Starting on the Green and spreading all the way to the picnic area, you’ll find clowns, face painters, live music, pony rides, bounce houses, and more. In addition there is a playground in the Picnic Area and an arcade on the first floor of the Grandstand.

This family festival is all about demonstrating environmental alternatives, featuring local food resources, and empowering fair-goers to learn more about earth friendly practices while having fun. At the center of the event is the Kate Gorrie Memorial Butterfly House abounding with the last generation of Monarchs before they head on their long migration south for the winter. The Association also coordinates a children’s butterfly costume contest, games and crafts, tours of the Butterfly House, naturalist-led hikes, live music, food vendors and more!
